Halloween Costumes Are Not Consent

The Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center wishes everyone a fun week this Halloween, but remember, costumes are not an invitation, nor do they imply consent.

Consent should never be assumed: Ask for consent before touching or approaching anyone. Make sure you receive enthusiastic, freely given, informed, and specific consent (each and every time). Respect someone’s boundaries and decision, if they say no.

Also, a gentle reminder that Halloween may be triggering for some due to: Darkness, loud noises, and crowds; increased street harassment; images of extreme violence; and excessive drinking.

Check on your friends or loved ones who may be survivors. If they're struggling during the festivities, let them know our 24/7 hotline is available to anyone who may need a little extra support: 972-641-7273.
